Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Zahit Selvi, university administrators, academicians and many citizens. Speaking before the concert, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gönül said, "Tonight, we are here with a repertoire consisting of works that we have not seen much in books, telling the stories of the heroes who have made these lands our homeland for a thousand years. We will make sense of the stories and experiences that many people do not know, in folk songs, in a way, we will shed light on history. When we look at the works we have, we witness that an enormous repertoire has been handed down from the Balkans to the Caucasus, from Crimea to North Africa and Yemen. Today, we have prepared a repertoire of folk songs for our art-loving guests, which they will grieve at times, and at other times they will feel different emotions." Stating that their aim is to tell future generations about our ancestors, Prof. Dr. Gönül said, "Our aim is to let our generations know who our ancestors are. We are talking about an enormous plane tree. There is wisdom in its roots, might in its trunk, future in its leaves, young branches and flowers, and no one is ever deprived under its shadow.
