The project titled “TranSustain HE: Transforming Sustainability in Higher Education with a Data-Driven Digital Assessment System”, carried out under the coordination of our university, has been awarded a €250,000 grant within the scope of the Erasmus+ Programme – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education (KA220-HED). The project aims to develop an innovative model that will enable sustainability efforts in higher education institutions to be evaluated in a more transparent, measurable, and data-driven manner.

The project is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özdal Koyuncuoğlu, a faculty member of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at our university. The project management team also includes Prof. Dr. Fırat Yaldız, a faculty member of the Faculty of Political Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saadet Korucu Kış, a faculty member of the Department of English Language Teaching at the Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education.

Built upon our university’s long-standing partnership experience, the TranSustain HE Project is being implemented in close cooperation with TURKSTAT (Turkish Statistical Institute), the Konya Plain (KOP) Regional Development Administration, University of Thessaly (Greece), and the International Balkan University (North Macedonia). In addition, the project will collaborate for the first time with the Institute for Legal Science of Slovenia, thereby establishing a new academic cooperation network.

A Comprehensive Sustainability Assessment Model for Universities

Through the TranSustain HE Project, a holistic and digital model will be developed to assess the sustainability performance of higher education institutions. The main project outputs include a digital assessment system based on data-driven indicators, a legal framework aligned with international standards, guidelines for universities, training materials for capacity building, and a sustainability-focused postgraduate curriculum. These outputs will strengthen universities’ decision-support mechanisms in sustainability management.

Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koyuncuoğlu emphasized that the TranSustain HE Project aims to transform sustainability policies in higher education into a structure that is data-driven, comparable, and open to continuous improvement, noting that the project represents a transformative step toward sustainable universities.
