In a health organization organized in Uganda in collaboration with the All Africa Friends Association, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Uganda Ministry of Health, an approximately 5-kilogram "keloid" mass was removed from a Ugandan patient with an operation performed by Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Medicine Vice Dean and Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department Academician Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dadacı.
Pointing out that surgery is not the first treatment option for keloid cases, Dadacı stated that the approximately 20-centimeter-long mass was removed with surgical intervention.
Prof. Dr. Dadacı said, "It is really a keloid mass that is longer than a beard, extending approximately 20 centimeters down. It is also located behind the ears, but we cleaned it and put the patient in a comfortable position."
Dadacı noted that normally the wound closes approximately one week after it forms in every person, and said, "In the case of a keloid, the brake mechanism stops after the wound heals and the wound does not say 'I am healed' and continues to produce tissue."
Stating that they encounter many keloid cases especially among the black race, Dadacı said, "For about 7-8 years, the patient had been walking around in difficult conditions with a mass of nearly 5 kilograms by tying his neck like this, and he got rid of it."
