Prof. Dr. Şebnem Yosunkaya, a faculty member of the Department of Pulmonology at NEU Faculty of Medicine, held an information meeting on TUBERCULOSIS for hospital staff during the Tuberculosis Education and Awareness Week from January 4-9. Dr. Yosunkaya explained that tuberculosis is a contagious lung disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which attacks the lungs and spreads through the air. Tuberculosis spreads through the inhalation of small droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. She stated that this respiratory disease is preventable and that early diagnosis and treatment are crucial.
