Model cigarette butts were left in the faculty garden to show the damage caused by cigarette butts to the environment as part of the 'May 31 World No Tobacco Day' by the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of our university.

Stating that millions of living things die by swallowing cigarette butts every year, our University's Faculty of Social and Human Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Birekul said, "As the faculty, we organized such an event in order to experience this awareness with our students. Our aim in this event, too, is to draw attention to how big environmental disasters and damages such a small waste as a butt actually causes. "According to statistics, 1 million birds die every year just by swallowing butts. Every small butt we throw on the ground slows down the greening and growth of plants in the soil by 44 percent. We organized such an event today to raise the awareness of our students and friends," he said.
