Fabric dyeing with natural plants is a sustainable and environmentally friendly method, ensuring that the colors are vibrant and natural. Mordant Substances: Substances such as aluminum sulfate, iron sulfate, vinegar, lemon salt. Fabrics made of natural fibers such as wool and silk. The cleaned fabric or yarn is rinsed and made ready. The selected mordant substance is mixed with water and boiled. The fabric or yarn is immersed in this mordant solution and boiled for 30-60 minutes on low heat. Natural dye plants are cut into small pieces and boiled with water. For example, 200-300 grams of plant can be used in 1 liter of water. The boiling period is usually 1-2 hours. During this period, the plants are allowed to give color to the water. After the dyeing process is completed, the fabric or yarn is rinsed thoroughly with cold water. Dyeing processes performed with natural plants attract attention with their naturalness and uniqueness, and also offer an environmentally friendly approach. In this context, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süleyman DOĞU, Assist. Prof. Dr Turan AKDAĞ and Assist. Prof. Dr Zeliha Üstün ARGON carried out the fabric dyeing (mordanting) application activity with natural plants with students both theoretically and practically.
