Our faculty's Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department faculty member Assoc. Dr. Eda Güneş and department and gastronomy community head Assoc. Dr. Yılmaz Seçim as the coordinator and gastronomy community members produced cookies for the shivlilik event specific to Konya and Seljuk culture. Shivlilik is a folkloric holiday that is only kept alive in Konya city center today and celebrated every year on the first Thursday of the three months, the month of Recep. The origin of Shivlilik is not known clearly. Some researchers attribute its origin to the Phrygians, but the people of Konya base the tradition on the anecdotes they hear from their elders. According to the old people of Konya, the emergence of Shivlilik is as follows: According to legend, Abu Bakr Shibli, a Turkish-Islamic mystic, learned in his dream one night that Muhammad had passed into his mother's womb on the first Thursday of the month of Recep. He woke up with great joy and announced this to all the houses in his neighborhood by calling out "Shibli." Each householder gave him a piece of food as a sign of good news. The community members carried out the production with great excitement.
