The third program of the NeuroKalem Creative Writing Workshop conducted by Necmettin Erbakan University Neuroscience Education and Thought Community was successfully held on Wednesday, May 7th at 17:00 at the Meram Youth Center. The program was organized within the scope of ÜNİDES University Student Societies Cooperation and Support Program. In this session titled “I Both Read and Wrote,” Prof. Dr. Nazmi Zengin shared important information with the participants about the writing process and the depths of literary thought. Throughout the presentation, Prof. Dr. Zengin enriched his narrative by giving examples from important thinkers and writers such as Yunus Emre, Albert Camus, and Ludwig Wittgenstein. Inspired by the worlds of thought of these names, it was emphasized that writing is a way of thinking, even a lifestyle. In the session, where it was stated that the basic material of literature is language, the idea that a person can escape from his existential narrowness by reading came to the fore. Zengin stated that contradictions nourish the creative process. Writing is not only about knowledge; Zengin, who mentioned that he was nourished with attention and love, drew attention to the importance of taking time and repeating in the journey of writing, and emphasized that the process progresses with patience. Zengin, who stated that language is not only a tool in writing, but also a homeland, conveyed that elements such as words, sentences, associations, dictionary reading and imagination are indispensable for the writer. Zengin, who stated that writing cannot be equated with madness, indicated that writing is not an obligation, but a choice and inner orientation with the words, “You will not be mad; you can do without writing.”
