The “Dyslexia Awareness Event”, implemented by the Recreation Management Department of the Faculty of Tourism at Necmettin Erbakan University, was carried out as a social responsibility initiative aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and organized within the scope of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event aimed to provide a joyful, inclusive, and supportive environment for children with dyslexia while increasing public awareness of learning differences. The primary target group of the project consisted of children diagnosed with dyslexia and their families. In addition, teachers, volunteers, and community members who participated in the event formed the indirect target group. This inclusive design emphasized that awareness-raising activities should address not only individuals but also the wider community to foster understanding and social acceptance. During the event, various recreational activities were organized, including games accompanied by a clown, face painting, balloon games, and gift distribution. These activities were designed to enhance children’s social interaction, strengthen self-confidence, and allow them to express themselves freely in a safe and welcoming environment. The event space was carefully arranged to ensure accessibility and emotional comfort for all participants. The initiative went beyond entertainment-focused programming. It aimed to reduce daily stress experienced by children with dyslexia, promote positive emotions, and support emotional well-being. By creating opportunities for play and interaction, the event contributed to children’s psychosocial development and social inclusion. Volunteer students played an active role throughout the implementation process. They facilitated activities, interacted directly with children, and supported the overall organization of the event. Through this involvement, students developed social awareness, empathy, and practical experience in inclusive community engagement. The collaboration with the Turkish Red Crescent represented a strong example of partnership between a university and a civil society organization. This cooperation ensured effective coordination and reinforced the sustainability of inclusive social initiatives. Overall, the project highlights the importance of inclusive recreational activities in promoting well-being, awareness, and equal participation within society.
