Rıda Öznur Turan shared information about women's rights with her friends. She stated that it is a field in which women have equal rights with men and are struggled to be accepted as equal individuals in society, and that these rights cover political, economic, social and cultural areas.
She gave information about the historical development of women's rights in Turkey. She said that important developments were made during the Republican period and that women gained the right to vote and be elected in municipal elections in 1930 and the right to vote and be elected in general elections in 1934. In 1985, with the amendments made to the Turkish Civil Code, equality between women and men in the field of family and inheritance law was ensured, and in 2002, with the amendments made to the Penal Code, sanctions against domestic violence were increased.
