NEU Press Makes History in Turkey by Partnering with Elsevier: Transfers 7 International Academic Journals to the Elsevier Digital Commons Platform

Necmettin Erbakan University (NEU) has taken an important step in scientific publishing, setting a precedent in Turkey. NEU Press, which operates under NEU, has partnered with Elsevier, one of the world's largest academic publishers, to migrate 7 international academic journals to the Elsevier Digital Commons platform. As a result, NEU Press has become the first academic publisher in Turkey to integrate with this platform.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Fatih Kaleci, Scientific Publications Coordinator at our university, explained, “NEU Press is an institutional academic publishing house operating within Necmettin Erbakan University, specialising in scientific book and journal publishing. The primary mission of NEU Press is to facilitate the stronger integration of Turkish academia with global science, provide researchers with sustainable, transparent, and digital solutions in the publication process, and enhance the visibility of university publishing in international indices. NEU Press produces multilingual publications that cater not only to the national academic community but also to the international academic community. NEU Press, which has 32 peer-reviewed international academic journals, has published over 500 academic books and produced over 2,000 articles and scientific outputs. NEU Press, which continues its activities with regularly conducted publishing education programmes, has become one of Turkey's rising university presses."

Publications Will Reach a Wider and More Global Academic Audience

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Kaleci also emphasised the advantages offered by the Elsevier Digital Commons platform: "This platform is an advanced digital publishing infrastructure that provides open access and high impact, preferred by reputable universities and research institutions around the world. With this strategic transition by NEU Press, our publications will reach a wider academic audience, increasing their visibility and citation potential in international indexes. Additionally, the platform is integrated with academic protocols such as OAI-PMH, Crossref, ORCID, and DOI, ensuring compatibility with important indexes like Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science.”

A Model and Guide for Universities in Turkey

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Kaleci stated that this pioneering work by NEU Press and our University's Coordinatorship of Scientific Publications serves as a guiding model not only for Necmettin Erbakan University but for all universities in Turkey, saying, "The implementation of strategies focused on digitalisation, open access, and impact factors is strengthening our university's position in the academic world. NEU will continue to lead the digital transformation of national academic publishing. Publishing is not just about producing science, but also about ensuring that this science is disseminated correctly and effectively. The innovative steps taken by NEU Press serve as an example for other universities as well."

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Kaleci noted that the university's publishing policy aims to increase national and international impact in the areas of education, research, and community service, and shared future goals of expanding the portfolio, increasing integration into international open access networks, and establishing global collaborations.

The names of the seven international academic journals that have transitioned to the Elsevier Digital Commons platform under the NEU Press umbrella are as follows: Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Journal of Pediatric Neurology, Journal of Pediatric Epilepsy, Journal of Pediatric Genetics, Journal of Pediatric Intensive Care, Journal of Child Science, Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications (MMNSA).
