"There is Color in the Kitchen" event was organized for special students with Autism at Meram Vocational School

Our University Meram Vocational School (Vocational School) Hotel Restaurant and Catering Services Department Cooking Program Instructors Lecturer Cemil Uslu, Lecturer Murat Özcan and Lecturer Evren Nas and department students organized a "Color in the Kitchen" program for special students with autism on the occasion of April 2nd World Autism Awareness Day was organized.
The pie making and decorating event held at our University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Application Workshop was attended by our University Meram Vocational School Director Assoc. Dr. Süleyman Doğu, Head of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Faculty of Tourism, Assoc. Dr. Yılmaz Seçim, our University Meram Vocational School faculty members and Selçuklu Special Education Vocational School students and teachers attended.
Our University Meram Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Doğu stated that it is very important to spread accurate information about autism and make society more sensitive to autism on World Autism Awareness Day. Dr. Süleyman Doğu said, “World Autism Awareness Day is a call for a more inclusive society by emphasizing the rights and needs of autistic individuals. 
On World Autism Awareness Day, it is important to support individuals with autism and their families and make efforts to make their lives better. Empathy, understanding and acceptance are the keys to increasing the social integration and happiness of individuals with autism.
Stating that they want to make such events traditional, our University Meram Vocational School Hotel Restaurant and Catering Services Department Cooking Program Head Lecturer Cemil Uslu said, “Various activities are carried out in the world and in our country to increase the adaptation of individuals with autism to daily life and the sensitivity in society. On this meaningful day, we, as the Hotel Restaurant and Catering Services Department Cooking Program, hosted our valuable students from Selçuklu Special Education Vocational School in our kitchen. We baked and decorated pies together. Our guest students presented the colorful pies by crafting them like a work of art. Let's notice the differences together. "In the end, we already feel the loving energies," he said.
Hotel Restaurant and Catering Services Department Cooking Program Lecturer Murat Özcan, who played an active role in the preparation and decoration of the cakes, said, “We are aware of autism, we are on their side. Each of us can play an important role in building a more inclusive society by understanding and accepting differences. We are aware of the loving hearts and colorful dreams of our brothers and sisters with autism. We are beautiful with our differences," he said.
