The J Urfa J Project Meeting was organized together with the Turkish Society of Family Physicians and Necmettin Erbakan University. The main topic was ‘The approach to children with recurrent infections’. This Meeting was held on October 21, 2023 and primarily focused on the diagnostic problems of the patients with primary immunodeficiency (PID) and approach to the recurrent infections in childre for pediatricians and family physicians.

The moderators of Urfa J Project Meeting were Prof Dursun Çadırcı, MD and Prof Ilhan Tezcan who is the president of Turkish Society of Clinical Immunology (TSCI) Prof Ilhan Tezcan gave a lecture about “The symptoms and diagnosis of PID”. He mentioned the diagnostic difficulties and diagnostic delay in the patients with PID after discussed the structural characterictics of immune system. After an informative talk on the history of J Project Meetings in Turkey and in the world, Prof Ismail Reisli gave his lecture about “the approch to the children with recurrent infections”. Asena Pınar Şeker, MD, presented a patient with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) due to ADA deficiency and mentioned the characteristics of classical SCID phenotype. The patient was diagnosed at her third month of life, not treated with bone marrow transplantation and died at 9-month-old. Depends on the patient with ADA deficiency, Prof Reisli said that the early diagnosis was very important for PID patients. At the end of the session, he also mentioned that the effective therapy depends on early diagnosis of PID patients. 

There were 110 participants attended this meeting. The participants discussed the importance of early diagnosis and early treatment of the patients with PID and the infectious and autoimmune complications. I would like to thank all participants for their participation to this J Project Meeting, and also thank to Prof İlhan Tezcan who is the president of TSCI for his contribution to make this organization possible.
